Douglas Adam, born 11th March 1952, was a writer of radio & TV material who contributed to such progammes as Monty Python, Dr Who and News Huddlines.

Probably his most famous work was The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, which came to him whilst drunkenly lying in a field looking up at the stars.

Writing didn't come easy to him and he claimed he liked the whooshing sound of deadlines as they flew by.

Even so, he still managed to conjure up such fantastic characters as Zaphod Beeblebrox, the inventor of the Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster.
