Stafford man, Robert Bull, joined the army and initially served in the West Indies.

Later, as Captain Bull he formed the 1st Troop Royal Horse Artillery and led them through the Peninsula War (1807-1814) as the hardest working battery in the British Army.

Later still Bull’s Troop helped defend Hougoument Farm with their 5 ½˝ howitzers at Waterloo where they were mentioned in Wellington’s despatches for their admirable skill and accuracy.

This Staffordshire Bull Terrier died in retirement in 1835 as a Lieutenant Colonel, but his spirit soldiers on today as Bull’s Troop in the R.H.A. Parachute Battery.
