For political reasons, in 1948, Russia denied the access of supplies to the western occupation zones of Berlin.

The western allies overcame this blockade by flying in such essentials as food and fuel. From June 1948 to May 1949, 275,000 aircraft supplied 1,5 million tons of goods until the Russians gave in.

The aircrews, seeing large numbers of children on their final approach path, started dropping sweets to the kids. Sweets, being non essential items were extremely scarce. The aircraft became known as Candy Bombers.

Hops used are English Endeavour, American Bravo and German Hercules.
