8000 people will carry a torch bearing the Olympic Flame around the British Isles before the Games open in London with a ceremony on Friday 27th July 2012.

205 nations will take part in 300 events, culminating in the closing ceremony just over 2 weeks later on 12th August.

Previously held in London in 1908 & 1948. It is the only city in the history of the modern olympics to stage the competition for a third time.
