Sea Captain Harrison Gregory claimed the invention of the doughnut, when as a boy in June 1847 he punched the centre out, to avoid them becoming soggy when cooked.

This staple part of the American diet now has it's own 'Donut Day', 4th June.

Over here, a special doughnut day was when Johnnie Cradock, husband of the first celebrity chef, Fanny Cradock, said at the end of their 60's TV cooking programme, "I hope all your donoughts turn out like Fanny's".

Hops used are English Challenger and American Nugget.
