In 1922 Howard Carter, sponsored by Lord Carnarvon, discovered King Tutankhamun’s tomb.

Following the death of Carnarvon the Egyptian authorities took over and ordered Carter to work for them. Carter refused and sealed the tomb up until Carnarvon’s daughter could negotiate its reopening in return for relinquishing any claims to the tomb.

On 25th January 1925 it was reopened by Carter and led to him opening the coffin to reveal King Tut’s remains.
