In the early 1800's tomatoes were considered evil & deadly, due in part to their relationship to Deadly Nightshade, but also to the acidic juice of the tomatoes leaching lead out of pewter plates and poisoning unwitting diners.

However, on 26th September 1830, Colonel Robert Gibbon Johnson, in an effort to popularise the fruit stood on the steps of Salem Court House and ate a whole basket of them in front of a crowd of hundreds who had turned up to witness his demise.

He lived and his actions led to a boom in tomato consumption.

Hops used are Magnum and Sterling.
