Roland Beamont was an outstanding WWII fighter pilot who went on to become an equally outstanding test pilot with his career culminating in testing the ultra advance TSR2 supersonic bomber.

It's maiden flight was on 27th September 1964 from the A & AEE (Aeroplane & Armament Experimental Establishment) at Boscombe Down airfield. Where, because of its potential, it became affectionately known as Tear Arse Two.

However, it never advanced beyond the prototype due to Government cuts and development of missiles as a nuclear deterent

Probably the only aircraft to have been shot down by an I.C.B.M.
