Pioneer motorist Walter Arnold imported the first motor car into this country and in 1865 he was seen hurtling through the Kent village of Paddock Wood at 8 mph.

The speed limit at the time was 2 mph and he was apprehended by a Policeman who issued the first speeding ticket after giving chase on a bicycle.

Later in the same year Walter took part in the first London to Brighton run in a car of his own manufacture.

Paddock Wood is the centre of Kent hop production and the hops in this beer, Pioneer and Fuggles, are both from that area.
