American Prohibition started in 1920, but massive illegal profits from bootleg brewing had bred violence and political corruption.

The Wall Street crash devastated the economy and abolitionists campaigned for 'beer for prosperity'. Consequently New York City Mayor, Jimmy Walker set the barrel rolling by organising a beer parade on 14th May 1932 in which 100,000 people marched to cheer for beer.

The Act was repealed in 1932. Well done Jimmy.
