The World Pie Eating championship has been held every year in Wigan since 1992. The 2007 event nearly didn’t happen after Charlie, the pie keeper’s pet pooch, got at the pies the night before.

He managed to wolf down 20 and nibble another 10. Fortunately fresh stocks were baked overnight and the competition went ahead with a late entrant, Charlie.

The rules did not exclude dogs but the excesses of the night before meant he couldn’t stomach another pie and he didn’t finish.

The hops in this beer are Target, Challenger & Northdown.
